いつか何処かで匂ったような･･･懐かしい香りです。
モリンガは、葉・実・根・花のほぼ全ての部位を食べることができる植物です。古代ギリシャ時代から治療薬としても利用され、炎症抑制効果や抗菌効果、抗アレルギー効果、抗酸化効果、抗高血圧効果など、様々な病気・症状に対する効果が期待できることから「奇跡の木」とも呼ばれています。
その中でも、花は強壮効果があると言われているエディブルフラワーになる他、香水の原料になったりもします。
モリンガは白い花を咲かせます。
決して豪華ではなく、反対に清楚な雰囲気の花ですが、清楚な中に凛としたものを感じます。
花弁は5枚で細長いスプーンのような形をしていて黄色い斑点が中心にあるのが特徴です。香りは甘くてフルーティー。香水としての販売はまだ実現していないものの、香料の原料として利用されています。
欧米ではエッセンスを抽出することで精油や香水の開発に取り組んでいるのだとか。
メンズにも人気のある匂いとして、今後更に注目されてくる香りになってくるのではないでしょうか。
モリンガの花を食し飲む
もちろん香料だけにとどまらず、花も葉と同様に食べる事が可能で、主に強壮効果などの効能が期待できます。
たとえば、強壮剤や利尿剤にも利用可能です。特に男性の強壮剤にはよく利用されます。また、乾燥させた花をお湯で5分ほど蒸らし、ハーブティーとしてもポピュラーな飲み方です。
つぼみの状態でも、炒めれば食すことが可能で、強い精力向上効果が期待できます。
また、しぼることでジュースがつくれます。このジュースは喉の痛みやカタル（粘膜の炎症によって多量の粘液・しょう液などが分泌される症状）をやわらげる効果が期待できます。
観賞用として鉢植えでも販売されていますので、鉢植えのモリンガがベランダやお庭でお花を付けたら素敵ですね！
【2021.10.2追記】
ちなみに、日本でモリンガを栽培すると春に種を植えて秋には収穫してしまうのでなかなか花に出会う機会はありません。モリンガは多年の植物で数年かけて5メートルほどの樹木になるのですが、冬を越すほどの成長期間がないと花を咲かせ、実を付ける事はありません。2016年の川南町の畑で5000本近く栽培しましたがそれでも収穫前の秋に数本しか見る事は出来ませんでした。
が、2021年の西都市の畑では、500本近くの木に対し、10近くの花を見る事が出来ました。時期も9月後半だったのですが、この畑は特にモリンガの成長が早く、この時期ですべて3メートルを超え、4メートル近いものもちらほら見かけるほどでした。なので、日本で花を見るには確率は低いのですが、ハウス等で冬を越せる環境を作ってあげるか、今年の畑のように成長力が早くなる環境を作ってあげる事かなと思います。
